Below is a link to an email from a TPM reader to Josh Marshall about his family’s life saving experience with the ACA, and how tossing it aside is nothing less than an act of cruelty.
The whole note is worth a read. Frankly, I think it should be required reading for every American, but the ‘money’ quote is the concluding paragraph:
I want TPM's readers to visualize this as concretely as possible whenever they consider millions losing their health insurance. Of course I would like members of the GOP leadership and the Trump transition team to visualize this too. Repealing a health insurance program that has been working for millions of people is worse than proposing something ineffective. It demonstrates outright a willingness to be cruel. To hurt people unnecessarily. There is no other word for it. It is heartless.
I would add that I want Bernie Sanders, every BoBer and every Berner or Dem friendly voter who chose to vote 3rd party or to not vote at all to visualize this scenario as concretely as possible.
We were unforgivably distracted from what was really important in this election. We have allowed the foundation of our social contract to be put at risk by people who will plunder our country and take us back to the 19th century. We have morally failed as a people and as a nation. Paul Ryan and his crew are the most cruel people in the world. Donald Trump and his crew represent pure greed, narcissism and pure evil. They now run our country. We failed to stop them. Can we redeem ourselves? This reader’s note from TPM should focus us on why we need to stand up and fight. More importantly, we need to show the maturity to be able to discern friend from foe and unite for the good of our country. We need to help people like Obama did for his 8 years in office. Some progress is better than enabling pure evil. What one person considers half a loaf, another person considers revolutionary and life saving. Don’t be so arrogant to assume that you know best. Think of others in deciding what course to follow.
